On February 7, 2014, Ghostbusters and geeks from across the region began to converge in New Orleans Louisiana at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The cause for such a phenomenon was the much anticipated return of Wizard Word Comic Con! Fellow Ghostheads and Brobusters from Alabama, Mississippi, & Texas joined forces with Louisiana Ghostbusters as we set our gears into overdrive all in the name of Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
Friday was hectic with setup crews arriving early to get ECTO LA-3 and other props into place. What better way to top off our ECTO than with Mr. Stay Puft towering on top? How about with an area chock full of gear including the Win a Pack Save a Life giveaway prizes (Aykroyd-autographed PKE Meter, Ghost Trap, and a one of a kind autographed Proton Pack with full lights, sound, and metal parts) as well as some mysterious books that no human being would have stacked? After an eventful day when the doors closed for the evening many retired to the now infamous annual Gumbo Gathering at one of our members’ New Orleans home.
Saturday was the full day of events. The group stayed busy with the every popular Buster Shots in addition to the Proton Pack giveaway. During the course of the day we were even privileged to have a Panel where we discussed our fandom, prop-making, costuming, and our Win A Pack Giveaway! Busters cruised the floors all day drumming up interest in our drawing as well as posing in front of ECTO LA-3 for adoring fans. As if the full day wasn’t enough we danced the night away with the lovely ladies at the Wizardworld After Party at a local night club.
Sunday dawned and the time to say good bye and tear down was upon us but not before we had a little more fun. The final giveaway tickets were completed and placed in the hopper. We then anxiously awaited the arrival of Michael “Merle Dixon” Rooker from The Walking Dead. He was gracious enough to assist us with our Raffle drawing.
